Mill Farm House

Overview

This project involved the full interior renovation of a home on the edge of East Bridgford, Nottingham.

While the property had generous proportions, the existing layout and finishes no longer reflected the needs of a young family. The brief was to reimagine the interiors to create a modern, functional home — making better use of the existing footprint without extending.

Working alongside Jackson-Crane Architecture, who led the external alterations, we developed a cohesive interior scheme that brings clarity, warmth and improved flow throughout the house.

Spatial Approach

The design focused on unlocking the potential of the existing layout.

Key spaces were reconfigured to improve circulation and connection, particularly within the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. This central space now opens towards the garden, creating a natural focal point for family life.

A considered approach to planning ensured each room — from the entrance through to the bedrooms and utility spaces — feels connected while remaining functional for everyday use.

Material & Design Language

A consistent palette of natural materials creates warmth and cohesion throughout the home.

Wide timber floorboards and a bespoke oak staircase introduce texture and rhythm, with the slatted balustrade casting subtle shadow patterns that change throughout the day. Within the main living spaces, timber is paired with softer finishes to create a calm and inviting environment.

The kitchen and living areas are designed as a unified space, balancing practicality with a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

Bathrooms introduce more variation in tone and texture, with each space responding to its use — from playful elements within the children’s bathroom to a more refined and understated master ensuite.

Design Development & Delivery

We worked closely with the clients from early design stages through to completion, developing layouts, finishes and bespoke elements across the entire home.

3D visualisations supported the design process, allowing each space to be explored and refined before construction. Regular site involvement ensured the design was delivered accurately, with careful coordination across all trades.

Final Outcome

The completed interior transforms the existing house into a calm, functional and cohesive family home.

By rethinking the layout and introducing a consistent material language, the spaces now feel more connected, practical and aligned with the way the family lives — demonstrating how thoughtful design can unlock the potential of an existing footprint.
