The Leys
Project in Brief
Project: Private Home
Location: The Leys, Normanton-on-the-Wolds, Nottinghamshire
Scope: Residential Interior Design, Bespoke Joinery, Project Management
Rooms: Master Bedroom, Cinema Room
Overview
For this private home in Normanton-on-the-Wolds, Boyes Design was appointed to redesign and deliver a master bedroom and a cinema room as part of a wider refurbishment. Our role extended beyond design and joinery to include full project management, coordinating trades and overseeing works from concept through to completion.
Both spaces were reimagined to improve flow, functionality, and atmosphere — creating rooms that feel calm, considered, and purpose-built for how the clients live.
Cinema Room
Originally a standard living room, the cinema space required a complete rethink of its layout to unlock its potential.
We redesigned the room by flipping the existing arrangement, relocating the seating away from the window and towards the rear wall. This allowed for the integration of a ceiling-mounted electric projection screen, discreetly positioned in front of the window when in use.
Bespoke joinery was designed and made to house the projector and supporting equipment, finished in warm timber tones that complement the darker wall colours and help create a more immersive atmosphere. This allowed the technology to remain visually understated while enhancing the overall cinematic experience. Lighting and finishes were carefully considered to balance comfort, functionality, and atmosphere — transforming the room into a dedicated yet refined cinema space.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom layout was redesigned to improve circulation and create a calmer, more spacious feel. Previously, the bed dominated the centre of the room, limiting movement and visual flow.
By repositioning the bed alongside the window, we opened up the floor space and immediately improved the sense of proportion. Bespoke wardrobes were designed and fitted on either side of the entrance and en-suite doors, finished in natural timber tones that bring warmth to the space while remaining visually understated. The joinery frames the room without overwhelming it, keeping storage integrated and the overall aesthetic calm and balanced.
A dressing table was incorporated into the dormer window recess, making use of natural daylight while maintaining a clean aesthetic. A clever concealed system allows the dressing area to be closed away when not in use, keeping the room uncluttered and serene.
Throughout the bedroom, bespoke joinery, carefully selected materials, and thoughtful detailing work together to create a space that feels balanced, practical, and quietly luxurious.
Design-Led, Fully Managed
This project reflects our holistic approach to residential interiors — where design, craftsmanship, and project management are considered together from the outset.
By managing layouts, bespoke joinery, finishes, lighting coordination, and on-site delivery, we ensured both rooms were completed to a high standard with a seamless process for the clients.
