Overview
In collaboration with Irish designer Rachel Delap, we partnered with Roasted Brown to design and deliver a new roastery and coffee shop in Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow.
The project brought together a working production space and a customer-facing café environment — requiring a careful balance between operational efficiency and a welcoming, design-led interior.
Our role encompassed interior design, spatial planning, bespoke furniture and full project coordination, from initial survey through to on-site delivery.
A Dual-Purpose Space
The key challenge was to integrate the functional requirements of a working roastery with the atmosphere of a hospitality space.
We developed a layout that supports the flow of production while creating a clear and inviting customer experience. The roastery, quality control areas and staff spaces are carefully organised to support day-to-day operations, while the café environment is open, calm and visually connected to the process behind it.
Design & Material Approach
The interior reflects a restrained, Scandinavian-influenced aesthetic, aligned with Roasted Brown’s brand.
Bespoke furniture and joinery were designed to support both function and identity — from robust workstations within the production areas to a more refined, flowing coffee bar within the café. A palette of timber, glass and simple finishes creates warmth while maintaining clarity and simplicity.
Lighting was considered throughout to differentiate between working and customer spaces, balancing practicality with atmosphere.
Delivery & Collaboration
Working closely with the client and wider project team, we coordinated all aspects of the design and fit-out.
3D visuals supported the design process, allowing key decisions to be made with clarity and confidence. On site, careful coordination ensured the design was delivered accurately and efficiently.
Final Outcome
The completed space brings together production and hospitality in a cohesive and carefully resolved environment.
Operationally efficient yet welcoming and refined, the project reflects Roasted Brown’s identity while creating a space that supports both the craft of coffee and the experience of enjoying it.
