Sloped ceilings can often make bedroom layouts challenging. Instead of treating them as a limitation, thoughtful interior design planning can turn these architectural features into opportunities for bespoke storage and character.
In this bedroom at The Limes, our interior design approach focused on working with the shape of the roof to create a calm and practical space. Bespoke joinery allowed us to integrate wardrobes, shelving and a dressing area into a cohesive design while maintaining a sense of openness.
Working with Sloped Ceilings in Bedroom Design
Integrating Storage Around the Bed
To keep the room feeling calm and uncluttered, we designed a wall of bespoke cabinetry around the bed. This approach allowed us to incorporate wardrobes, drawers and shelving within a single cohesive design while keeping the proportions of the room balanced.
A recessed niche above the bed introduces a warm colour accent and integrated lighting, creating a focal point within the joinery while keeping everyday items within easy reach.
Designing for Sloped Ceilings
Sloping ceilings naturally create areas of lower head height that can be difficult to use effectively. Rather than leaving these spaces empty, we designed bespoke shelving that follows the angle of the ceiling.
By working with the architecture of the room, the design transforms what might otherwise be awkward spaces into practical storage and display areas.
Integrated lighting highlights the shelving and adds warmth and depth to the room.
A Hidden Dressing Area
A compact dressing table is neatly integrated within the joinery, providing a dedicated space for getting ready without adding additional furniture to the room.
By incorporating the dressing area within the cabinetry, the design maintains a clean and uncluttered feel while still providing practical storage.
Thoughtful Bedroom Design
Bedrooms are often one of the most personal spaces in a home. By carefully considering layout, storage and lighting, even rooms with unusual architectural features can become calm and comfortable places to unwind.
At Boyes Design, our interior design process focuses on working with the architecture of a home to create spaces that feel balanced, practical and considered.
Our interior design projects often involve working closely with the structure of a building to create bespoke storage and furniture that fits naturally within the space.
