Inside the Workshop: Where Design Becomes Craft

Every Boyes Design project begins in the studio — but it comes to life in our Nottingham workshop. This is where ideas, materials, and technical drawings are transformed into bespoke kitchens, fitted bedrooms, furniture, and carefully crafted interior details.

Our workshop team combines traditional making techniques with modern precision. Every cabinet, drawer box, and joinery piece is cut, assembled, sanded, and finished by hand — a process that ensures the quality, feel, and longevity of every project we deliver.

From Studio to Workshop

Once a design is approved, detailed technical drawings are passed to the workshop. These guide everything from the proportions of a cabinet to the curves of a kitchen island, ensuring the final piece matches the original vision — and the space it’s designed for — perfectly.

Materials That Stand the Test of Time

We only use materials that offer long-lasting stability and performance. Hardwood ply, poplar plywood, solid timber, and carefully selected veneers all play their part. These choices give each piece a solid feel, helping our kitchens and interiors remain beautiful and functional for years to come.

Craftsmanship in Every Detail

Many of the steps in our workshop are quiet, meticulous moments: sanding down a cabinet door, dry-fitting a set of drawers, testing a hinge, or hand-finishing an edge. These are the details that elevate a piece of joinery from “good” to exceptional — the kind of craftsmanship you feel every time you open a door or run your hand along a surface.

Sustainable, Local, Made in Nottingham

All of our joinery is made in-house in Nottingham using renewable energy and sustainably sourced materials. Keeping production local means fewer miles travelled, closer collaboration with our design team, and a more considered, sustainable way of making.

Where Function Meets Craft

By bringing design and manufacture together under one roof, we maintain complete control over quality, finish and performance. It’s this process — studio + workshop working together — that creates kitchens and interiors that feel calm, thoughtful, and built for daily living.

If you’d like to learn more about how we design and make our kitchens and interiors, or to start a project with us, we’d love to hear from you.
