From Visual to Reality: A Hotel-Inspired Guest Bedroom
For this project at The Limes, we were asked to transform a guest bedroom into something that felt more like a boutique hotel than a spare room. The brief was simple but exciting: create a space that feels grown-up, bold, and memorable for visiting friends and family.
To achieve this, we began where many of our projects start – with a series of visuals that explored mood, layout, and materials before anything was made.
Designing the Mood: Chic, Dark and Comfortable
The client was drawn to the idea of a “chic hotel” atmosphere: rich colour, soft lighting, and a sense of escape from everyday life. We developed a set of renders that explored:
A darker, more enveloping colour palette
Clean-lined fitted furniture to keep the room feeling calm and uncluttered
Statement details that would make the room feel special as soon as you walk in
Seeing these elements together in the visuals helped the client feel confident to embrace deeper tones and bolder contrasts, knowing exactly how the space would look and feel once finished.
Using Renders to Refine the Details
The 3D visuals allowed us to test different combinations of wardrobe proportions, headboard height, bedside storage and lighting positions before committing to the final design. Small adjustments at this stage make a big difference to how the room works day to day.
We could walk the client through:
How the fitted wardrobe sat within the room
How much space was left around the bed for comfortable circulation
How the chosen finishes – from timber and paint colour to handles – worked together as a whole
By the time we moved into technical design and manufacture, every detail had been considered and agreed.

From Workshop to Finished Room
Once the design was signed off, our workshop team brought the joinery to life. The fitted wardrobe and integrated furniture were made in our Nottingham workshop, ensuring a precise fit and a high-quality finish.
In the completed space, the dark, bold palette creates exactly the atmosphere we explored in the visuals – calm, cocooning and quietly luxurious. The fitted furniture keeps the room feeling ordered, with everything in its place, while the lighting and finishes add warmth and softness.
The result is a guest bedroom that feels more like a hotel suite than a spare room: a space that stands out, but still feels connected to the rest of the home.
If you’re thinking about transforming a bedroom in your own home – whether it’s a guest room, main bedroom, or multi-use space – our team can help you explore layouts, storage and finishes through visuals before we begin making anything.
