What we do to be sustainable

Firstly, welcome to our Journal, a space for us to discuss topics that are important to us as a business, to  share our latest projects in a little more depth and to showcase the work of others we admire.

Discussing sustainability, and what we do to be as sustainable as we can be, felt like the right place to start.  We are passionate about sustainability because we believe it’s our responsibility to look after the source of  the materials we most often work with; that is of course, trees.

Trees, or timber, is self-rejuvenating, meaning that with proper management it is in itself a sustainable  resource. That’s why we are committed to supporting replanting trees. We replant as many trees as is  equivalent to those used for our work, per project, through the National Trust's ‘Plant a Tree Fund’. We even  share with you how many trees that is for your own insight at the end of your project.

That’s not all we do. We’ve created a list of some of the other things Boyes Design does to incorporate sustainability into our design and manufacturing processes:

  1. We use eco-friendly materials - We source our materials from suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability. This includes using FSC and PEFC-certified wood, which ensures the wood comes from responsibly managed forests.

  2. Minimising waste—We strive to minimise waste throughout our design and manufacturing processes. This includes using CAD (computer-aided design) software to optimise material usage and reduce scrap. We also recycle any waste materials from our workshop, which are used for biofuel and animal bedding.

  3. Supporting local artisans—We believe in supporting local artisans and craftspeople who share our commitment to sustainability. By working with local suppliers and manufacturers, we reduce our carbon footprint and support the local economy.

  4. Longevity and durability - Our designs are built to last. By creating high-quality furniture and interiors that are durable and timeless, we reduce the need for frequent replacements and minimise waste.

  5. Energy efficiency and green energy - We incorporate energy-efficient LED lighting into our designs and use green energy sources for our workshop utilities, including to power our machinery. This helps to reduce energy consumption and minimise our impact on the environment.

We would love this list to keep growing and for us to keep improving our sustainable practices because we are passionate about creating beautiful and functional interiors that are also environmentally responsible.

If you share our commitment to sustainability, we would love to work with you to create a beautiful and responsible interior for your home or business. Contact us to book a conversation with one of our team.
