Designing Commercial Interiors That Work — Butlers Coffee House, Radcliffe on Trent
Commercial interiors need to do far more than look good. They must support staff workflow, reflect a brand’s identity, and create an environment customers want to return to — day after day.
At Boyes Design, we approach hospitality and commercial interiors with the same design-led thinking as our residential work, ensuring every space is considered from both an operational and experiential perspective.
For Butlers Coffee House in Radcliffe on Trent, we worked closely with the client to design and deliver a café interior that balances practicality with warmth and character. The aim was to create a space that feels welcoming for customers while working efficiently behind the scenes for the team running it.
Designing for Day-to-Day Operation
From the outset, layout played a key role in shaping the interior. The positioning of counters, circulation routes, and seating was carefully considered to support daily service, helping staff move through the space comfortably during busy periods while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere for customers.
Lighting was designed to enhance the mood of the coffee house throughout the day, shifting naturally from bright and inviting in the morning to warmer and more intimate as the day progresses. Bespoke joinery was integrated throughout the space, providing durable, well-crafted elements that support both function and aesthetics.
Collaboration and Craftsmanship
Hearing directly from the owner of Butlers Coffee House highlights the importance of collaboration in commercial projects. Clear communication, attention to detail, and an understanding of how the space would be used were essential in delivering an interior that supports the business long after opening day.
Designed from our Nottingham studio and delivered with close coordination across trades, this project reflects our holistic approach to commercial interiors — bringing together layout, lighting, bespoke joinery, and project management under one roof.
Commercial Interiors Built to Last
This project at Butlers Coffee House is a strong example of how thoughtful commercial interior design can support both the people running a business and those enjoying the space. By focusing on functionality, atmosphere, and longevity, we create hospitality interiors that work hard while remaining refined and welcoming.
